It is important to understand what Yin is and what Yang is, how they work in the universe and how they influence our overall health. There are four aspects of the relationship of Yin and Yang: opposition, interdependence, mutual consumption, and inter-transformation. These aspects indicate that Yin and Yang are opposite, but they cannot exist without one or the other. The comparison that is often made to describe this relationship is day turning into the night, in that, Yin transforms into Yang; and night turning into the day, in that Yang transforms into Yin (Wang, 2017).

The deficiency (Xu) and excess (Shi) in TCM are the concepts that help to interpret between the forces of the body’s resistance to pathogens and the disease itself. In other words, deficiency refers to the conditions as a result of the body’s weak resistance. On the other hand, excess indicates the conditions that are caused by the populous amount of pathogens that exist in the body (Shen Nong, n.d.)

What to Expect

Qi in TCM

Qi (pronounced “Chi”) is a universal energy that cannot be created nor destroyed. Every substance and matter on Earth is made up of Qi.

The Meridian System

The meridian system in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) focuses on maintaining the flow of the Qi. This system transports energy throughout the human body using the channels that different meridians are located.

Pulse and Tongue Diagnosis

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), pulse diagnosis is one of the major and effective assessments that health professionals perform to identify certain health conditions of a patient. Pulse diagnosis is also a common health assessment used in Western medicine.

Yin and Yang

Yin and Yang is a concept of two opposite, but interconnected forces that exist in the universe. This concept is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to determine the movement or “flow” within the human body and its goal is to help the body maintaining balance.
